Florida Asphalt Scholarship Program

In 2013, the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida started the process of revamping its ACAF Scholarship program. Since then, we have incorporated a non-profit 501-c3 Florida Asphalt Scholarship Program, and annual fundraising events. On behalf of the Scholarship Committee, we are pleased to announce the following available scholarships to our members.

General requirements: These scholarships are available to any Florida resident whose parent, parents, or legal guardian is a member or is employed by a member of the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida. This program is an umbrella program that currently encompasses several scholarships as described below.


Carroll Lance Memorial Scholarship and FASP College Scholarship

These scholarships are available to any Florida resident that is a graduating high school senior in 2020 whose parent, parents or legal guardian is employed by a firm who is a member of the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida. These scholarships are designed for students seeking a degree at an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Business, or Computer Science/Information Technology. These scholarships will be presented to selected applicants onetime in the amount of $1500. Carroll Lance faithfully served for over 29 years as ACAF’s Executive Director and an endowed scholarship was established on his behalf.


Debora and William Bachschmidt Scholarship

Our newest scholarship starting in 2020 is a single 4-year scholarship worth $2,500 per year (restrictions apply). Debora and Bill Bachschmidt have been ACAF members for over 31 years and lead DAB Constructors, Inc. out of Ingles, Florida. Bill is a 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner from the ACAF. Scholarships are available to any Florida resident that is graduating high school in 2020. The applicants’ parents or legal guardian must be employed by a firm who is a member of the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida. This scholarship is designed for students seeking a degree at an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Business, or Computer Science/Information Technology.

Florida Asphalt Trade Scholarship

These scholarships are available to any Florida resident that is graduating high school in 2020, has already graduated high school, or has a GED. The applicant must be under 25 years old and whose parent, parents or legal guardian is employed by a firm who is a member of the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida. These scholarships are designed for students seeking continued education in an accredited trade or vocational technical school in mechanical, electrical, welding programs and represent trades that are needed in the asphalt industry and other construction related industries. These scholarships will be presented to selected applicants onetime in the amount of $2500. Applications are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis for 2019-2020. First deadline is March 1, 2020.

Jake Moretz is the winner of the Carrol Lance Memorial Scholarship and the Florida Asphalt College Scholarship. Jake graduated from Wellington High School in 2019 and is planning to major in Civil Engineering.


Diego Price is the winner of the Florida Asphalt College Scholarship. Diego graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 2019 and is planning to major in Materials Science and Engineering.


Catherine Alvaro is the winner of the Florida Asphalt College Scholarship. Catherine graduated from Pine View High School in 2019 and is planning to major in Business and Physical Science.


Hunter Booth is the winner of the Florida Asphalt College Scholarship.  Hunter graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 2019 and is planning to major in Business.


Alissa Vuillier is the winner of the Florida Asphalt College Scholarship. Alissa graduated from Trinity Preparatory School in 2019 and is planning to major in Environmental Engineering.


Parker Williams is the winner of the Florida Asphalt Trade School Scholarship. Parker graduated from Marianna High School in 2019 and is planning to become an Electrician.
